In this menu-driven guide to entertaining with a Southern focus, Top Chef season 16 winner and fan-favorite Clark showcases her skill at prepping for events in a way that assures success. Clark, a seasoned caterer and restaurant owner, begins by encouraging hosts to take a simple, organized approach in planning every element of a successful party, including table settings, flower arrangements, and the bar. The book provides a useful chart showing how much food and drink to plan for per guest. Each menu focuses on a different occasion, from casual brunches and lunches right up to formal dinners. Clark's concise and easy-to-follow recipes, from tarragon chicken salad on a croissant to Southern-style ramen, are completely interchangeable, and many offer multiple possible variations. While Southern in approach, these recipes and helpful suggestions are easy to adapt in any region and on any budget. Topping it all off is stunning, inspirational photography by Achilleos. VERDICT A perfect guide for planning gatherings of any size; great for any collection.--Ron Block

Top Chef winner Clark (Southern Grit, 2021) combines Southern charm and French elegance to inspire daytime garden parties, game days, street-taco dinners, and paella nights. Every aspect of party planning is addressed, from host and guest etiquette to floral arrangements and meal service. Fans of European-style brunch will be drawn to the collection of frittatas or ham and cheese baguettes served with spinach frise and berry clafoutis, while those who prefer standard American fare will appreciate the likes of burger bar suggestions, pizza nights, and roast chicken dinners. Though Clark is clearly aiming to appeal to all tastes, the menus oozing with Southern flavors are what set this apart. Garlic butter-mopped oysters and chili dogs served side-by-side nod to Southern oyster bar fare, and hot honey chicken transports readers to the Deep South, with its buttermilk and pickle juice brine, quick flour dredge, and deep fry. Mouths will be watering before anyone can cry out for a side of pickled green tomatoes--but those ought not to be skipped either.
